Adam was giddy about the controversial, and recently removed NASA photos that show what appears to be a space ship or ‘moon base’ on Mars! The photos were taken by the Spirit exploration craft on the martian surface. More info here.

Snitch Apps

Posted on 20 December 2010 by Dave

Drive Me Crazy

Now at the App Store, snitch apps! First there was the Patriot App to report suspicious behavior, now there’s Drive Me Crazy, a voice activated app where you can report someone and issue a virtual ticket! According to Adam Curry, this GPS enabled app records the time and place of the violations and then reports this information to the DMV and all insurance companies!

Adam explained further that this snithch app was produced by Philip Inghelbrecht, who created the popular music ID app, Shazam. Adam said all listeners of No Agenda should boycott Shazam and use Soundhound instead!

John and Adam further discussed how this is all part of See Something, Say Something and is similar to the infamous Stasi and other eastern european security organizations that encouraged snitching on your neighbors.

We at No Agenda Entertainment are intrigued at Drive Me Crazy’s capability to flag ‘cuties’ you see on the road. Maybe it ain’t all that bad?

Reddy Kilowatt

“From the the Hilltop Watchtower Command Center in Gitmo Nation West in the People’s Republic of Southern Califor-ni-a! Sheeple turning into turkeys! “And from Northern Silicon Valley – the home of Reddy Kilowatt!”

During the opening of NA #255, Dvorak explained Reddy Kilowatt the mascot of west coat power company, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). Reddy was actually created in Alabama and was later adopted by different power companies as a symbol of clean, powerful electricity!

We dig this miniature, HO scale Reddy Kilowatt sign that you can purchase from Miller Signs, a model railroad accessory company.

Mac Mini/Snow Leopard Server

Posted on 28 November 2010 by Dave

Adam want to get off the cloud in a big way – what with Google selling out your data to the Feds (only $20!) he doesn’t want to compromise confidential data from people that send him inside info. His search for a ‘turn-key’ server solution that he could run inhouse was complete when he scored a Mac Mini server with it’s included OS – OSX Snow Leopard Server. To make it more like the Gmail service he was used to, he added Mail Steward, a MySQL database solution for rapid search and archiving of email. He also added a Mail.app plug in called MsgFilr for quick keyboard shortcuts to store mail in specific folders. On top of this, he added GnuGP for easy encryption of mail messages.

Adam went into detail expaining his server setup during DSC #853. He also describes it here on his CurrysCloud site.

Radiation Dosimeter

Dosimeter Badge

Feel like your gettin’ dosed by x-rays on a regular basis? Work around a Gitmo Body Scanner? Buddy, you need a Dosimeter badge to carry around to monitor your radiation exposure! Used by medical technicians, radiologists and dentists, these badges monitor accumulated radiation exposure. Wear the dosimeter badge while at work and then send off to be read by the vendor. John Dvorak reported that  Stanford Dosimetry makes some of the more affordable badges available at $69 a year, per person.

Perhaps a show producer can make some No Agenda co-branded dosimeter badges to hand out to TSA agents?

SFPark ‘Smart’ Meters

Posted on 13 August 2010 by Dave

SFPark smart meters being installed

Dvorak has a big peeve with San Francisco’s new SFPark smart parking meters. This over $24.5 million dollar pilot program seems like a scam according to Dvorak who thinks the spots should be free and that municipalities probably spend so much money administering parking programs with high paid employees, that they don’t make any money for the city. Well, at least $20 million dollars for these meters came from the federal government!

SFPark parking meterNoAgendaEntertainment was on the scene late July when these meters were first being installed in SF’s Hayes Valley neighborhood. Dvorak says that these meters were installed in front of Mevio’s offices on 2nd St. but they should have a low price since people rarely use them as there’s free parking nearby. Look for the City to eliminate the free spots so they can charge more at its new meters. Also, Dvorak should be happy that he can just shove his credit card right into the meter so he won’t have to waste ten minutes of meter time feeding coins in the slot.

SCRAM Bracelet

Lilo with SCRAM

Lilo modeling her SCRAM bracelet

From MTV News:

The SCRAM bracelet, short for Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, is a lightweight ankle bracelet designed to keep track of the wearer’s alcohol consumption through measuring his or her perspiration. After data regarding the wearer’s blood alcohol content is collected, the bracelet sends the information to the manufacturer, Alcohol Monitoring Systems.

Lindsey's new SCRAM braceletThe SCRAM bracelet is virtually tamper-proof, thanks to “an internal mechanism that if you do tamper with it, it’ll notify the remote location immediately,” attorney Mark Geragos told MTV News. As a result, SCRAM wearers are cautioned not to submerge the device in water, as the bracelet would no longer be able to record perspiration, which would be flagged by remote monitors as “an attempt to defeat” the bracelet. Said Geragos: “You’ve got to take some precautions when you shower.”

Body Scanners in Gitmo Great White North

Body Scanners in Gitmo Great White North

Airport Body Scanner
During NA #219, Adam discussed that Gitmo Great White North (Canada) is doing it’s part and is installing electro-magnetic body scanners at the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan airport.

Adam is always annoyed by these especially the one at San Francisco International – the SF international terminal has around five security lines – one has the body scanner and it’s on the far right – avoid it!

NSA Echelon Site SF

Posted on 21 July 2010 by Dave

611 Folsom St. SF

Dvorak mentioned in NA #219, how he often walks by the AT&T telco building at 2nd and Folsom Streets in San Francisco (Mevio’s offices are a few blocks away). Inside this building, the EFF claims that there is a splitter so all the data traffic can flow to Room 641A where it can be monitored by NSA’s Echelon monitoring system.

Old Holborn

During the recent edition of Daily Source code (#839), Adam was delighted that he received a love package from Mr. Oil containing Old Holborn rolling tobacco. Old Holburn is Adam’s favorite smoke but it isn’t available in the US. Adam said he was all ready to roll with his Rizla King Size Slims!

Update 8/2/2010: During NA 222, Adam was concerned about new regulations that will prohibit selling the dangerous drug, tobacco via USPS. How will he get his Old Holborn now?  :-0

Suboxone

Suboxone tablets

Must have been a great poppy harvest this year!

A viewer wrote in from a drug detox facility, to report that they’ve had a huge upswing of heroin de-toxers coming in for help. The most popular drug used for these cases is Suboxone (and Subutex). It’s a narcotic that not all doctors can legally prescribe as doctors need special training and licensing to prescribe it. According to the drug manufacturer, it’s a drug that needs to be taken for a long long time and then, it take years to get off Suboxone itself! There’s not enough doctors in the facility to prescribe the drug so more doctors are getting certified.

So now, heroin is now a gateway drug to Suboxone and Subutex! Too bad these drugs have some pretty controversial side effects.

From the Suboxone website:

Why Choose SUBOXONE?
SUBOXONE is a narcotic medication indicated for the treatment of opioid dependence, available only by prescription, and must be taken under a doctor’s care as prescribed. It is illegal to sell or give away your SUBOXONE.

Opioid dependence isn’t just physical. It also affects the way you feel and how you act. That’s why successful treatment takes more than medication alone.*

Is Mel Gibson on Chantix?

Posted on 15 July 2010 by Dave

Mel Gibson Chantrix

In today’s episode of No Agenda, Adam hypothesized that Mel Gibson’s crazy phone call might have been the result of  taking Chantix to quit smoking. After dissecting his now infamous phone call, Adam pointed out that Mel says that he wanted to smoke and sounded real stressed out. Either Adam has came up with another ‘crackpot’ idea or maybe he is on to something?

Find out more about the controversial side effects surrounding Chantix.

Get it at Amazon

This is Adam’s favorite newspaper. He reads  it whenever he travels to and from the UK. Also, during NA #39, he said he liked getting his news in this format. He can be offline, take the first section down by the pool and fold it like a book. Also, you get a better global view of what is going on that you can’t get while online.

faderfox LC2

This is what Adam uses to record and produce No Agenda. Connected to his Macbook Pro 15″ and Abelton Live software. One of the important features of Adam’s setup is his ability to monitor live what is recording, include sound effects from his virtual ‘cart rack’ and pipe it to via Skype so he can monitor the show as well. These units are made in Germany by Faderfox

Someday Adam might document and share exactly how he configured his setup.
